Directions
Shops are an ethnic group of Bulgarians. It is believed that it was these people who invented the salad, which we now call “shopkoe.” The composition of Shopska salad is similar to the well-known Greek, in fact, Shopska salad – a twin of Greek. It contains cheese and vegetables. However, there are plenty of cooking options for this dish. Traditional Shopska salad has its own laying out the order: first, come the tomatoes, then pepper, then cucumbers, herbs, at the very top – feta cheese. In this context, you can see the colors of the national flag of Bulgaria. Another feature of Shopska salad is that there should be a lot of cheese, it must be laid out on top of the whole salad to make a “hat”. Pepper for this dish can be taken not only fresh but also pickled or baked. This dish is often served as an appetizer for wine, but it can also act as a main dish or as a side dish.
